Caprice, Impala SS to live till December (Toronto
Star, 3/2/96)
Sudden heavy demand for its Caprice and Impala SS full-size
sedans has prompted Chevrolet to decide to keep building the cars
through next December.
Last May, General Motors announced it was dropping the
slow-selling Chevys, plus the Buick Roadmaster and Cadillac
Fleetwood, sometime in 1996.
The move signalled the end of the era of big, rear-wheel
drivers, once the mainstay of North American motoring.
The Arlington, Texas, plant where the cars are built will be
devoted to pickups.
Aficionados wanting the last Caprice or Impala are out of
luck. Chevy will keep them for historical purposes.
