The 1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS is a fun car that has generated quite a bit of excitement. A family sedan on the outside; the Corvette LT1 engine on the inside. The Impala SS features attractive, almost mysterious, styling that includes clearcoat paint over a dark finish, barely visible Impala SS emblems on the sides, and 17" alloy wheels. To tame the beast, Chevy added four-wheel ABS-equipped disc brakes, special suspension, and Z-rated rubber.
You won't see an Impala SS on the road every day (unless you own one). Chevy ceased production of the Impala SS on December 13, 1996. There were not that many cars produced during its three year run. If you drive an Impala, expect to be asked about it frequently.
There's nothing more disappointing than a car that looks faster than it performs. There is a quiet pleasure in owning a car, like the Impala SS, that is faster than it looks. A stock Impala will get you from 0-60 in just over 7 seconds, do the standing quarter mile in just over 15 seconds, and reach a top speed of over 140 mph. Not bad for a two ton family sedan.
The Impala has inspired an owner's club (the devilishly named NAISSO), many web sites, an aftermarket, and lots of enthusiastic writing in the automotive press. Here's a scrapbook of leading articles about the 1994-96 Chevrolet Impala SS (and even a few about the great Impala SS of the 1960s). There are now over 85 articles available on this page (24 new ones were added on October 1, 1997). If you have any articles about the 1994-1996 Impala SS that are not on this page, please send me an email.
